This is the day that the Lord has made, let everyone say, “I will rejoice and be glad in it”!
We are continuing our journey to Enchi.
Yesterday we started the trip with a sobering stop at Elmina Castle. Elmina is a bustling coastal town where the Elmina castle is located. Many of the men in the town are fishermen. Many women are artisans and sell various goods and artwork. The place was alive upon our arrival. The market was booming with fresh fish coming straight off the boat into the hands of restless customers.
We drove past the market to get to the castle. There we were greeted by energetic artists each hawking their work. It can be overwhelming to try and decide who to buy from and what to buy. Nonetheless, we pushed ahead to the castle. Our guide, Kojo, was a masterful teller of the dark history of the castle. All I can say is, may God be merciful to the descendants of enslaved Africans. The horrors of slavery take on different meaning when you walk in the dungeons where our forbears were kept and feel the heaviness in the air.
After leaving the castle we came to an oceanfront hotel for our mid journey stay. The route to Enchi can take up to twelve hours with traffic (sound like I-4 😏🥴😤) so we stopped for a night. The ocean was therapeutic. The breeze, the balanced rhythm of the waves, it was a much needed reset.
This morning we are continuing the rest of the journey! Keep us lifted.
In Christ,
PT
